Downloading issues has issues. I'm not sure why there's an option to download articles because you can't read them unless you're online. If I'm not online when I start the app the screen sits blank with the spinning wheel. If I want to read offline I have to go somewhere with wifi or cell service, start the app, let the menu load, and then I can read downloaded articles if I lose service. 🤔 Very poor design from a magazine that is supposed to be on the cutting edge of science.

The new version is better, but it still gets confused. I use VPNs always and I think it causes an issue for this app. Over time it forgets (expired or bad token in bg?), and once it does, you cannot access your online subscription or other functions. I have to reinstall it, very annoying. Still waited for a real fix and better QA with this app. 11/29 - Still broken, no digital magazine access.

I like Scientific American content but the android implementation leaves a lot to be desired. After several years of development the application still lacks a basic functionality of remembering a reading position. The latest update did not improve things but instead made navigation a bit more complicated and broke offline functionality. The app downloads the text of the articles but all of the graphics is missing in the offline mode.
